Rob Ey who has run 30 Canberra Marathons was out with injury, as was Peter Fitzpatrick from Wagga Road Runners - Peter has run over 100 marathons & I have hassled him for his list. I don't know what happened to our Australian 100 Marathon Club member David Cannings who was to have run his 20th. Of the 46 Griffins, not all made it to the start line due to injuries. Many thanks to Peter Thomson for getting so many Griffins to the event this year. We managed to get a group photo before the start with some of the 46 Griffins who registered for this year's event. I have to say that in the 33 years that I have been running the Canberra Marathon this was the wettest one. 2016 had 39 Griffins in attendance, and the goal for 2017 was 50.Ĭongratulations to everyone who took part over the wet weekend of April 8-9, with the 5km & 10km events on Saturday followed by the marathon, half marathon & ultra marathon on Sunday. Peter Thomson is the Griffin Co-Ordinator now and is doing a great job, I remember him taking photos last year while he was running the marathon. The Griffin Club came to light back in 1994 to recognise marathon runners who came back year after year. The Australian Running Festival, better known as the Canberra Marathon, has had many changes over the years - courses, names, sponsors and Griffin Co-Ordinators.
